Don’t buy laptop computers!

I still believe strongly that laptop segment in India is so under developed. I have visited foreign countries; I have seen Indians and a few foreigners carry stunning laptops that are no way near what I have in my house.

My laptop especially belongs to the Hyder Ali era. (Smile 4). It is ignorance that prevails among almost all the Indian laptop buyers. They don’t know what to look for in laptop computers.

The title of this blog says, “Don’t buy laptop computers’. I wish to add that don’t buy laptop computers before you compare laptop prices and features.

Compare and shop online is a pretty well established concept in western countries. India is slowly, very slowly catching up in this area.

ConsumerMate.com is a new website launched by the 9.9 Media group where one can browse through laptop computers offered by several major players that include Apple, Compaq Presario, Dell, HP, Lenovo and Acer.

Among them, I think Apple is fiercely competing with others as it is not yet a preferred brand.

Well, coming back to Consumer Mate, it is not only just a comparison shop for laptop computers. It teaches us the basics of laptop, the advantages and disadvantages between the desktop and laptop computers.

There is also the ‘Hot Deal’ where one can avail special money saving offer.

Another unique feature in consumermate.com is they have published customer care telephone numbers of various brands of laptop computers they sell in their web site. I have never seen this feature so far in my 11 years of Internet. But I wish, they have disclosed their complete contact details in their web site instead of just an email id.

Consumermate.com should be taken to the public for the benefit of all.

Can't you recognize what it is? It is computer mouse man! With fish inside, this is an escape from using the boring black mouse.

I too like different shaped mouse but it should be comfortable to use. I like colored mouse, flasing mouse.

The fish inside will move around as you use the mouse. It is a nice little desktop aquarium.

This USB Optical Liquid Mouse costs just $17.00

Water proof USB drive.

Yes dear, this is a flash drive and not a fishing line. There is more to it folks. These flash drives possess the qualities of a fish-I mean they are water proof.

Though these fishes are not slippery like real fish, you still need to strap it to your body when you dive under. There is a provision for strapping too.

And the real fish won't imagine this as a predator because of un-fish like colours.

Capacity of this USB drive is one to two GB.
Made in Russia.

Mouse carries the numeric keypad.

Ah, at last! Here is a genuine human welfare minded person that understood the problems faced by laptop computer users and created the mouse of the century. Laptop users who have reluctantly switched over from using desktop computers like my husband face this one problem-no numeric keypad in laptop.

I know my husband struggles to key in numbers in laptop. His fingers will automatically grope for the non-existent number pad in laptop.

Here is a mouse that carries the numeric keypad. This is a optical mouse that connects to a USB port. It comes with 30" retractable cable.

Available at Amazon for a whopping $41.35.

Slip on the mouse on your finger.

This is an optical mouse that rests snugly on the finger of the computer operator. I want to buy this for my husband who uses his laptop. I know he is not comfortable using the inbuilt mouse pad.

This mouse is USB powered. The design is definitely ergonomic.

It fits on any finger using the adjustable Velcro strap.

It is for sale at Amazon for only $24.95. Other models are also available for $6 onwards.

Juvenile Mouse?

Would you call this rubber ducky mouse as way too juvenile? Well I am 49 and I won't call it so. I would buy it for my computer and even gift it to my friends.

It is refreshing to look at and very cute too. I like that small duck siting pretty in a pool of water. As you move the mouse, the duckling too splashes in the water.

It is said to be designed in Switzerland and made in where else but China!

Have you bought a digital caviar?

"A Digital Caviar? What is this? You must have misread some info".

No sir, no way. I read it right and so are you. It is an external hard drive with a storage capacity of-hold your breath-500 GB. Yes, that is equivalent to approximately 62 DVDs.

I find it amusing to remember that my first computer's built in hard drive was of just 4 GB storage capacity.

Now, the age of talking in terms of GB is bygone. It is the age of Terabyte. Do you know what is a Terabyte? It is 1 followed by twelve zeros. (1,00,000,0000000)

This external terabyte hard disk drive (HDD)is manufactured by Western Digital and priced at just $99.99.
Buy it from New Egg with more detailed product info.

Here is a Trivia for you:
The distance light travels in two months is about one Tera-mile.
