Oxyride batteries from Panasonic.

Same Look, Twice The Strength: Panasonic's latest charge takes on the competitive alkaline battery market.

Just in time for the holidays, Panasonic has unwrapped a new AA and AAA battery that delivers twice the performance of similarly priced batteries. Welcome news for parents who will be buying high-end electronics like iPods, the Nintendo Wii, digital cameras and other gadgets.

The new product is the Panasonic Oxyride. The Oxyride is a disposable battery that comes in AA and AAA sizes.

Previous to public launch, Panasonic made claims that the Oxyride lasted twice as long as the competition. However, when PCWorld.com performed an independent test of the battery they discovered results that were even better than advertised.

Panasonic used a number of patented processes in order to develop these new, longer lasting batteries. Two factors that improved the strength of these batteries include improved electrolytes and manufacturing enhancements. The improvements were said to be the result of over 8 years of development.

The Panasonic Oxyride is now available at stores everywhere. The typical cost of four AA or AAA batteries is about $4 USD.
